What is CIPP and How Does it Work? | Dallas CIPP Explained

Dallas CIPP

Dallas CIPP gives us a gamechanger for pipeline maintenance and repair. Now, those underground, vertical, or complex pipelines don’t need disruption to get you operating as you should. Excavation used to be the go to solution. Now, it’s an ancient method that is rarely necessary.

Instead, turn to advanced trenchless technology – like CIPP. Learn what CIPP is and how it works in this guide.

What is Dallas CIPP?

CIPP is one of the most innovative pipe repair methods on the market. This trenchless solution is also known as cured in place pipe. The method uses a liner that goes directly into the pipeline and cures there to create a brand new pipe within.

Once the curing is complete, you restore the structural integrity and effectively repair any damage or aging that occurs.

This method can be used on a variety of pipeline materials, as well as various pipeline uses or sizes.

How Does CIPP Work?

CIPP is simple and generally just takes a few hours where excavation takes days or even weeks. There are some key steps to the process, which is quite simple overall. That being said, it should always be done by a qualified professional.

Here’s how the process goes:

  1. Inspect & Assess: we start with a video camera inspection to ensure we fully understand the pipeline. This allows for accurate diagnostics and planning for repairs and pipeline needs.
  2. Clean Pipes: before applying CIPP, we need to be sure the line is clean and clear of any debris. We often hydro jet the line to clean it and prepare it.
  3. Liner Prep: now, we will prepare the CIPP liner and coat it with the right resin for the task. We measure, plan, and ensure the section we insert is specific to the need of the pipeline.
  4. Insert Liner: It’s time to insert the liner and place it where there is a need for repair. We can insert through an access point and avoid digging in the process.
  5. Curing: the resin must cure, which is available in different methods. The curing causes the liner to harden and create a brand new pipe inside the existing one.
  6. Final Inspections: when the repair is complete, we always test and complete a final inspection to ensure there are no further issues.

The Benefits of CIPP

There are so many great benefits to this option. When you compare it to traditional digging and pipe replacement, the benefits speak for themselves.

Check out these benefits:

  • Trenchless solutions means minimal disruption or destruction to complete
  • Highly cost-effective with lower costs upfront and over time
  • Save time, completing repairs in a few hours or a day or two rather than days or even weeks
  • Highly durable material that will last 50 years or even more
  • Reduce waste by rehabilitation and reduce your carbon footprint from excavation or emissions

Is CIPP Right for Every Situation?

There are some times where CIPP may not be the solution, but those exceptions are pretty rare. The truth is that CIPP is highly versatile. You can apply it to various different types or uses of pipelines. In addition, you can use it on pipes that are anywhere from 3-120 inches in diameter. That’s a huge range of options to work with!

So when does it not fit? CIPP will not work for a pipe that is completely collapsed or one that has severe offsets and misalignments. If you need to change the pipe diameter, CIPP can not do that either. Other than these exceptions, CIPP has got you covered.
